UI/UX Designer, developing a cross-platform tool to help people learn how to cook healthy meals, from conception to the final product.
Project Description
In today’s world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by conflicting nutrition advice and food marketing. However, healthy eating doesn’t have to be overly complicated or expensive. The goal of this project was to raise awareness and promote a healthy lifestyle by providing easy, quick-to-cook recipes, along with nutritional information and supporting statistics.

My Process
To utilize a solution-based approach, I looked to the Design Thinking methodology. Design thinking is a user-centered approach to problem-solving. It helps designers create solutions that address a real user problem and are functional and affordable.
Reason
The Casual Meal experience was designed to address the challenges users face when trying to maintain healthy eating habits in busy daily routines. From a UX perspective, the goal was to reduce cognitive load and simplify decision-making by providing an intuitive, accessible, and engaging platform for meal discovery and planning.

Obesity Growth
New Zealand has the third highest adult obesity rate in the OECD, and it continues to increase. Promoting healthy eating and raising awareness are powerful tools to combat the problem.

Lack of unprocessed food
It's proven that the cornerstone of a healthy diet should be to replace processed food with real food whenever possible, but not many restaurants offer healthy menus. A smart home cooking approach provides a good alternative.

Cost and time misconception
The common belief that sticking to a nutritious diet is too costly, coupled with the misconception that preparing healthy daily meals takes too much time, underscores the need for solutions that address both time and financial constraints.

Investigating the profound effects of unhealthy diets and the prevalence of ultra-processed food in stores, my research highlights the urgent need for design solutions that encourage healthier choices and combat lifestyle-related health issues and biases.

Once the research was complete, I began to design wireframes. I designed high-fidelity prototypes for both the responsive web platform and mobile application, ensuring a consistent, user-centered experience across devices and interaction touchpoints.

Final Outcome
The final result is a clean, intuitive, and responsive digital experience that makes healthy eating feel accessible and achievable. The platform presents easy, quick-to-cook recipes alongside clear nutritional information and supporting statistics, helping users make informed choices without feeling overwhelmed.
Through a user-centred approach, the design simplifies complex information, guides users smoothly through key journeys, and balances clarity with visual engagement. The structured layout, consistent visual system, and responsive design ensure the experience works seamlessly across both web and mobile devices.
Overall, the project successfully translates health and nutrition content into a practical, approachable product that supports awareness, education, and healthier lifestyle choices.
