My Design Process
Research & Discovery
The project began with understanding the challenges users face when navigating dental care experiences, including limited access to clear treatment information, anxiety around dental procedures, and fragmented communication with dental professionals. Competitive analysis and user-centered research helped identify opportunities to improve accessibility, transparency, and trust within the digital healthcare experience.
User Flows & Information Architecture
Based on the research findings, I developed user flows and structured the information architecture to simplify navigation and support intuitive task completion. Special attention was given to reducing cognitive load and ensuring users could easily access treatment plans, appointment details, and oral health insights.
Wireframing & Interaction Design
Low-fidelity wireframes were created to explore layout structures, interaction patterns, and content hierarchy across both mobile and web platforms. The design process focused on creating a clean, approachable interface that balanced healthcare professionalism with a friendly and empathetic user experience.
Visual Design & Design System
A consistent visual language was established through typography, spacing, color systems, and reusable UI components. The interface was designed to feel trustworthy, accessible, and calming, supporting users who may experience anxiety around dental care and treatment management.
Prototyping & Responsive Experience
High-fidelity prototypes were developed for both the responsive web platform and mobile application to ensure a seamless cross-platform experience. The prototypes focused on usability, accessibility, and consistency across devices while supporting smooth navigation and clear communication between patients and dental professionals.
Iteration & Refinement
The final stage involved refining layouts, improving interaction flows, and optimizing the user experience based on feedback and usability considerations. The outcome was a scalable, patient-centered healthcare experience designed to improve engagement, transparency, and confidence throughout the dental care journey.

Dentist’ Pain Points
Repetitive Patient Education.
Dentists spend time explaining the same procedures again and again.
Lack of Trust and Transparency.
Patients often don’t fully understand their treatment plans, leading to hesitation and reduced case acceptance.
Patient Retention.
Many patients don’t return regularly for check-ups or treatment completion.
Administrative Load.
Managing bookings, reminders, and follow-ups eats into clinical time.
Lack of Centralized Patient Data.
Important information is scattered across systems, slowing decisions.

Patient’ Pain Points
Lack of information
Limited access to clear information about dental histories, procedures, and pricing.
High Treatment Costs
Dental care can be expensive, especially for procedures not covered by insurance (e.g., implants, crowns, braces)
Difficulty Understanding Treatment Plans
Patients often struggle to understand complex dental terminology or the necessity of proposed procedures
Fear and Anxiety
Keep many patients from seeking timely care, worsening oral health issues.

User Persona
The user persona was developed to better understand the needs, goals, behaviors, and challenges experienced by modern dental professionals managing both patient care and clinic operations. The research focused on identifying pain points related to administrative workload, patient communication, treatment transparency, and workflow efficiency. These insights helped guide the design process and informed the creation of a more accessible, patient-centered, and operationally efficient dental healthcare experience.

A smart, secure digital assistant that connects dentists and patients seamlessly turning complex clinical data into simple, actionable insights.

From Fixing to Preventing.
Smile Labs aims to improve dental health through prevention and awareness. By combining smart technology and patient education to help detect early signs of problems before they turn into costly treatments.
Easy Communication
The experience is designed to simplify communication between patients and dental professionals while creating a more transparent, accessible, and supportive healthcare journey.
Intelligent Patient Support
The platform leverages smart onboarding, secure information sharing, personalized reminders, and educational tools to support proactive dental care and improve patient engagement.
Long-Term Impact
Smile Labs reframes dental care from a one-time clinical visit into an ongoing wellness experience that builds trust, consistency, and long-term patient engagement.

Colours
I used a modern, accessible color palette designed to balance professionalism and warmth. Primary purples and magentas establish trust and friendliness, while a range of greys ensures clear, readable text. Supporting colors like green, red, orange, and yellow enhance usability by signaling health status, alerts, and actions. This palette reinforces a patient-friendly experience while supporting clear communication and intuitive navigation.

By simplifying complex medical information and workflows, the design builds trust and confidence while reducing friction for both patients and dental professionals.
A key learning from this project was the importance of clarity and reassurance in healthcare design. Small design decisions—such as clear visual hierarchy, step-by-step flows, and approachable language—played a critical role in making users feel informed and in control. Balancing clinical accuracy with a friendly, human-centred interface was essential to creating an experience that feels both professional and accessible.
This project reinforced the value of designing with empathy, especially in health-related products, where usability, transparency, and trust directly impact user engagement and overall experience.
